A major fire incident took place on Wednesday (May 21) night after the engine of an Air India flight operating fromBengaluru to Delhicatch fire, shortly after landing, prompting authorities to declare a full emergency at the airport. According to sources, the incident involved Air India flight AI2802, which landed safely before the pilot reported smoke in the engine. Following the alert, emergency response protocols were immediately activated and full emergency procedures were declared.

Sources said the incident took place on Runway 29, following which operations on Runway 29R were temporarily suspended for inspection. A total of 171 passengers were onboard the aircraft at the time of the incident.

The aircraft was later towed away along with the passengers as authorities carried out safety checks and inspection procedures. Airport officials subsequently resumed operations on Runway 29R at 10:18 pm after clearance.

“Air India is immediately initiating a full investigation into the cause of the incident in coordination with the relevant regulatory authorities. We are committed to sharing further verified information as soon as it becomes available. The safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority,” the airline spokesperson added.
