Residents in the Westbury, Carle Place, Herricks, and Sewanhaka communities approved their districts’ respective budgets on Tuesday, May 19.
Westbury residents approved the district’s $209,822,273 budget with a 2.30% tax levy increase, with it receiving 305 votes for and 62 votes against.
The budget marks an $8,480,805, or 4.21%, increase from the district’s current financial plan.
Incumbents Robin Bolling and Rodney Caines received 307 votes each to be re-elected to the district’s board of education. The two candidates ran unopposed.
Carle Place residents approved the district’s $60,127,845 budget with a 2.32% tax levy increase for the 2026-2027 school year, with it receiving 699 votes for and 249 votes against.
They also elected two newcomers and one incumbent to the district’s board of education while failing to re-elect its sitting president.
The budget marks a $1,438,611, or 2.45%, increase from the district’s current $58.7 million financial plan.
Kimberly Ribarich, with 658 votes, incumbent Kathleen Reardon, with 431 votes, and Christine Aguilar, with 392 votes, were elected to the district’s board of education. Ribarich and Reardon will begin three-year terms, while Aguilar will serve the remaining two years of Lawrence Zaino’s term, who previously announced his retirement.
Board President Vanessa Dong-Monaco lost her bid for re-election, receiving. 298 votes, Viki Santos Brenner, who received 374 votes, and Guarav Singh, who received 99 votes also fell short of winning a seat.
Voters also approved a proposition 699 to 202, which allows the district to establish a $15 million capital reserve fund with a 15-year term. The district said any future expenditures from the capital reserve fund will require resident authorization.
