A supposed Republican in Utah just proved that the war on our constitutional rights doesn't only come from the left. State Rep. Walt Brooks (R) is championing legislation that would strip away open carry rights from public college campuses across the state, offering permitless concealed carry as some kind of consolation prize.

Let's be crystal clear here, Patriots: this is what a RINO looks like in action. Brooks is essentially telling law-abiding Americans that exercising their Second Amendment rights in the most visible way possible is somehow too scary for college campuses. What's next - banning open carry because it might hurt liberal feelings?

The timing of this betrayal couldn't be worse. Just three weeks into President Trump's second term, as we're working to restore constitutional principles across America, we have Republicans in state legislatures actively working to erode our God-given rights. This isn't compromise - it's capitulation to the anti-gun lobby.

Utah has long been a beacon of Second Amendment freedom, with some of the strongest constitutional carry laws in the nation. Now Brooks wants to carve out special zones where apparently the Constitution doesn't apply. What makes college campuses so special that constitutional rights should be suspended?

The so-called 'compromise' of permitless concealed carry is nothing more than political theater. Why should law-abiding citizens be forced to hide their constitutional rights? Open carry serves as both a deterrent to criminals and a visible reminder that free Americans refuse to be defenseless victims.

This is exactly the kind of establishment Republican nonsense that drove millions of Americans to support Trump's America First movement. We don't need Republicans who sound like Democrats when it comes to our fundamental rights.

Utah conservatives need to ask themselves: is this the kind of representation they voted for? Republicans who negotiate away constitutional rights instead of defending them? The answer should be a resounding NO.
