Voters approved several school districts’ 2026-2027 budgets and decided on school board races across Nassau County when they headed to the polls on Tuesday, May 19.
Levittown residents approved the district’s $284,420,293 budget with a 1.98% tax levy increase for the 2026-2027 school year, with 1,156 votes in favor of it and 610 against it. The budget marks a $10,073,518, or 3.67%, increase from the current school budget.
Trustees Jennifer Messina and Phyllis Dalton, as well as newcomer Daniel Larkin, won the three open seats on the district’s board of education, receiving 1,137, 1,087, and 1,070 votes, respectively, and will begin a new three-year term.
Newcomer Anne-Marie Guerra received 639 votes in defeat.
The second proposition was approved 1,231 to 453, which allows the district to spend up to $15 million on school building improvement projects without raising taxes. The proposition will combine $4.6 million from the district’s 2023 Capital Reserve Fund with $10.4 million in unassigned fund balance for projects throughout the district.
Three new people were elected to the Hicksville School District’s Board of Education, with the only two incumbents losing their seats and the district’s $186.3 mllion budget was approved.
Hicksville residents approved the district’s $186,315,191 budget for the 2026-2027 school year, with 1,133 votes in favor and 506 against.
The budget includes a 2.58% tax levy increase and marks a $5,503,767, or 3.04%, increase from the current year’s financial plan.
Three newcomers will also join the board of education in a six-person race that saw two incumbents defeated.
Kim Raspanti, with980 votes, defeated Carolina Sanchez-Molina, with 518 votes, to win a seat previously held by Irene Carlomusto, who did not seek re-election.
