Police in San Diego responded to reports of a possible shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, according to local authorities. The San Diego Police Department said officers arrived at the Islamic Center located in the 7000 block of Eckstrom Avenue following reports of an active shooter.
“SDPD is on scene at the Islamic Center of San Diego in the 7000 block of Eckstrom Ave for a reported active shooter,” the department wrote in a social media update.
Authorities urged the public to avoid the area as the situation remains active.
Police said further updates will follow as the investigation develops. In an update, the San Diego PD wrote, "The scene at 7050 Eckstrom Ave is still active but contained. We have significant resources on scene at this time."
UPDATE:At least two suspects were killed in the shooting, and the threat is "neutralized," SDPD said. There are no more suspects.
San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria acknowledged the police response and wrote on X, "I am aware of the active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont and am continuing to receive updates from law enforcement. Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area. Please avoid the area and follow instructions from public safety officials. We will share updates as more information becomes available."
