Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) chances of reaching the playoffs in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) suffered a major blow after they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday (May 18) by a margin of five wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. However, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side is still alive in the playoff race.

The five-time champions have 12 points in 13 games and have one match left to play. They are one of the five teams fighting for the one remaining spot. SRH and Gujarat Titans (GT) have qualified after today's result, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) had sealed their spot yesterday.

In order to reach the playoffs, the Super Kings need to win their last game against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Thursday (May 21) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. If they lose that fixture, they will not have any chance of making the second round.
