The Council of Greater Manhasset Civic Associations has canceled its Wednesday, May 13, meeting, with the next meeting scheduled for June 10, according to an email sent to members by President Andrew J. Schwenk.
Schwenk said the Town of North Hempstead recently informed the organization it is “continuing discussions involving the property owner, Ionna, and/or the Town” regarding the proposed electric vehicle charging station at the Apple parking lot in Americana Manhasset. He said the update was provided about two weeks ago and that the town appears to be pursuing a resolution that could avoid litigation.
Town Attorney John Nicello also confirmed the town has not issued a Certificate of Completion for the project, meaning the charging station is not currently permitted to operate. Although construction appears complete, the site cannot open until the certificate is issued.
Schwenk also shared information he received from a senior member of the NYU Langone construction project underway at Northern Boulevard and Shelter Rock Road. The medical facility is expected to open in early December, although delays remain possible.
Project representatives said staffing plans are still being finalized and traffic impacts were reviewed during the Board of Zoning Appeals process, with mitigation measures implemented in accordance with town recommendations. Parking for employees, patients and visitors is expected to be accommodated on-site.
Officials also said temporary concrete barriers around the property are expected to be removed this summer, landscaping improvements are planned and the flagpole previously located at the corner has been permanently removed.
Schwenk additionally shared an update from Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena on the Bayview Avenue shoreline restoration and roadway rehabilitation project. DeSena said construction was halted after contractors discovered additional shoreline deterioration requiring modifications to the original approved plan and additional wetlands disturbance.
The revised plan is awaiting approval from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation before work can resume, according to DeSena. She said construction would restart immediately once approval is granted.
Schwenk encouraged members to attend the Greater Council’s Wednesday, June 10, meeting, which will be the organization’s final meeting before the summer break.
