A tragic incident at the popular Dubare Elephant Camp near Kushalnagar in Karnataka’s Kodagu district claimed the life of a woman from Tamil Nadu during an elephant bathing session. The victim, identified as 33-year-old Jinnu from Pallavaram, was reportedly visiting the camp with her husband when the accident occurred amid a sudden commotion involving two elephants.
According to preliminary reports, chaos broke out after two elephants at the camp allegedly turned aggressive and began fighting during the public bathing activity. In the confusion that followed, a temporary structure near the viewing area reportedly collapsed onto Jinnu, leaving her critically injured. Her husband, Joel, also sustained serious injuries while trying to escape the scene.
A disturbing video of the incident has surfaced online and is rapidly circulating across social media platforms. The viral footage appears to show two elephants clashing violently with their trunks as visitors panic and run for safety. During the chaos, a woman can allegedly be seen getting caught in the middle of the struggle and desperately attempting to free herself while bystanders try to rescue her. The visuals have triggered widespread shock and concern online.
Both victims were immediately rushed to a hospital in Kushalnagar for treatment. However, despite medical efforts, Jinnu later succumbed to her injuries. Joel continues to undergo treatment for his injuries.
Following the incident, officials from the Forest Department reached the spot and initiated an inspection to determine the exact sequence of events. Authorities are also expected to review safety arrangements and crowd management measures at the elephant camp in the wake of the fatal accident.
