Delhi Weather Today: Delhi is set to face another extremely hot and dry day on Monday (May 18), with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting the maximum temperature to touch around 44 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature is expected to hover near 26 degrees Celsius, keeping the night relatively warm as well. Strong surface winds are also likely during the morning hours, but they are not expected to bring significant relief from the rising heat.

On Sunday, the capital had already recorded a maximum temperature of 41.9 degrees Celsius, which is well above the seasonal average. With heat conditions intensifying, Monday is expected to feel even more uncomfortable, especially during peak afternoon hours.

Delhi Weather Today: Dry Winds and Rising Temperatures Push Summer Stress Higher

The ongoing temperature rise is being driven by clear skies and hot northwesterly winds. According to weather experts, such conditions allow direct sunlight to heat up the surface quickly, increasing overall discomfort levels across the city.

Humidity on Sunday was recorded at 28 percent, which kept the air relatively dry but did not reduce heat stress. Similar conditions are expected to continue on Monday, making outdoor movement difficult during midday hours. Residents are advised to avoid stepping out between 12 pm and 4 pm when heat intensity is at its peak.

Health experts have advised residents to take extra precautions as temperatures climb. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may lead to dehydration, fatigue, dizziness and heat-related illnesses. People working outdoors should stay hydrated, wear light cotton clothing and take frequent breaks in shaded areas.

Delhi Air Quality Today: AQI at 174, Remains in Moderate Category

Alongside extreme heat, Delhi’s air quality also remains a concern. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 174 on Sunday evening, placing it in the moderate category.

The AQI scale classifies readings between 101 and 200 as moderate, which may cause discomfort to sensitive individuals, especially those with respiratory conditions. While the situation is not severe, continued hot and stagnant conditions could prevent significant improvement in air quality.
