Aheartwarming “promposal”orchestrated with the help of local police has left social media users smiling after officers staged a fake “arrest” so a teenage boy could surprise his date with an unforgettable invitation to prom.

Avideo sharedby theBeverly Hills Police Departmentshows two officers arriving at a home in the neighborhood before pretending to take a high school student into custody — only for the situation to quickly turn into a playful promproposal.

“Today, we’re going to do a promposal for high school students — it’s gonna be hilarious,” one officer says at the beginning of the clip.

The officers are then seen pulling up outside the home and knocking on the door while family members and the girl the teen hoped to invite to prom gathered nearby.

“Gavin was involved in a battery after school today,” one officer jokingly tells the crowd. “We’re gonna go downtown.”

The officer then begins mock “perp walking” the teen toward the patrol vehicle, instructing him to place his hands behind his back and spread his legs as part of the elaborate setup.

Family members and the unsuspecting girl followed closely behind as another person nearby began recording the bizarre scene, apparently worried about what was happening.

But moments later, the prank took a sweet turn.

The teen reached into the back seat of the police cruiser and pulled out a handmade signasking the girl to attend prom with him.
