Los Angeles renters can now search a massive new online database exposing years of alleged housing violations tied to apartment buildings across the city — from illegal evictions to harassment complaints.
The new “Top 100 Problem Rental Properties” dashboard launched by the office of LA City Controller Kenneth Mejia allows tenants to punch in virtuallyany residential address in LAand instantly see more than a decade’s worth of reported complaints and code violations, dating back to December 2013.
The database, available through the LA Controller’s Problem Rental Properties dashboard, ranks the city’s worst-offending rental addresses and details the number and type of violations connected to each property.

The city says the dashboard is the first time Angelenos have hada simple way to search years of housing complaintsand violations in one centralized place.
“We ranked the TOP 100 PROBLEM RENTAL PROPERTIES in the City of LA,” the Controller’s office posted on social media while announcing the tool.
The data paints a troubling picture of tenant complaints across the city.

Housing advocates have long complained that renters were forced to navigate scattered city records and difficult-to-search databases to uncover whether landlords had histories of complaints or alleged abuse.
