A day after the Pakistan government said doctors examined jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, his medical reports were officially submitted to the Chief Justice.

According to top sources, attorney general of Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan officially submitted Imran Khan’s medical reports to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Yahya Afridi, during a meeting in his chambers.

The sources toldNews18that the findings indicate that while Khan’s vital signs remain perfect for his age and range, he is suffering from significant vision impairment in one eye. As per the ophthalmological tests presented to the Supreme Court, one of his eyes is functioning at 6/6 vision but the other is only working at a capacity of 67 percent to 72 percent, they said. The report revealed that while his eyes are “working fine", he requires proper treatment and specialised medical care, they added.

They said this submission follows a Supreme Court judgment from February 12 on Khan’s medical treatment and access, with the court now likely to issue a new verdict following the latest assessments.

This comes as demonstrations by the supporters of Khan and his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), entered the fifth day.

Protesters are demanding Khan’s immediate release from custody and his transfer to a hospital for proper treatment, while holding the Shehbaz Sharif-led government and “rogue military regime" led by army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, responsible for the former prime minister’s medical crisis in prison.

The scale of the unrest has paralysed Pakistan’s infrastructure, as PTI workers successfully blocked major highways and bridges across numerous cities. This sustained blockade has led to a massive disruption in domestic stability, with reports indicating that 50 percent of the country’s trade and communication has been choked.

Vital transportation networks have been severed, specifically cutting off major routes between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and capital Islamabad. Significant blockages persist on the highways linking the restive province to Punjab, with protests in cities including Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Swabi, Mianwali, and Abbottabad. The Attock Bridge remains a flashpoint for major blockages as the judiciary continues to review the official health assessments provided by the attorney general.

While the Pakistan government said Khan was examined by a team of doctors on Sunday (February 15) after a reported eyesight issue, the PTI party rejected the inspection.

A PTI lawyer visited Khan on February 12 on the directive of the SC to get a first-hand report on his living conditions. The report showed that he complained of losing about 85 percent vision in his right eye.
