TheLong Island Water Conferencehosted its 38th annual Drinking Water Tasting Contest at Farmingdale State College on Tuesday, May 5, and Wednesday, May 6, educating the community on Long Island, with the Bayville Village Water Department being named the best drinking water in Nassau County.

“After winning the contest in 2023 and 2024 but missing out on the threepeat last year, it is great to once again be named Nassau County’s best-tasting water,” Salvatore Astuto, the supervisor of water plant operations at the Village of Bayville Water Department, said. “We are tremendously proud of the work we do here in Bayville, as we dedicate ourselves to providing the best water service available to our residents every single day. It is gratifying to see our efforts appreciated by hundreds of people from so many different communities throughout Long Island, and we look forward to repeating as champions once again next year.”

There were 17 water providers from across the region that competed for the title, with over 380 participants voting for their favorite water. Each participant received giveaways like water bottles and tote bags.

Long Island Water Conference representatives, along with representatives from participating water providers, educated students and others on the role water providers play in treating and distributing the billions of gallons of water delivered to residents’ homes every day.

Long Island Water Conference Chairman Brendan Warner said people look forward to the conference each year.

“It serves as a fun, light-hearted way for Long Island’s water providers to connect with students and residents from throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties, educating them about everything providers do to deliver high-quality water service every single day,” he said. “We hope our participants gained a greater sense of appreciation for their drinking water, and congratulations to the Village of Bayville and the Greenlawn Water District for coming out on top of the competition.”

The Greenlawn Water District was named the best drinking water in Suffolk County. The two winners took home the trophy for the best-tasting drinking water in their respective municipalities.
