The Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners’ Association has elected Michael E. Mazzola of the Massapequa Water District as its 2026 president, following a recent association meeting.
Mazzola will lead a newly elected board representing water districts across Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Mazzola, a Massapequa resident of more than 50 years, brings extensive public service and management experience to his role as Commissioner of the Massapequa Water District, with a focus on ensuring a safe and reliable water supply for local homes and businesses.
In a statement, Mazzola recognized outgoing 2025 president John Coumatos of the Bethpage Water District.
“Commissioner Coumatos’ leadership and dedication made a lasting impact on our association and the communities we serve,” Mazzola said. “His commitment to collaboration helped advance important conversations around water quality, infrastructure, and long-term planning. On behalf of the NSWCA, we thank Commissioner Coumatos for his service and continued contributions to the water industry.”
Mazzola has served with the Massapequa Fire Department for 44 years, including 15 years as Fire Commissioner. In that role, he oversaw major capital improvements such as upgraded emergency generators at all three firehouses, a new fire truck maintenance and training facility, a computerized dispatch system, and the acquisition of three ambulances over nine years.
Beyond his fire service, Mazzola has private-sector experience in management and facility operations. He is also active in the community, serving as Secretary and Treasurer of the Kiwanis Club of Massapequa and as past president of the Massapequa Soccer Club.
Mazzola and his wife have raised two children in the community.
The 2026 NSWCA board also includes 1st Vice President Joseph Perry of the South Huntington Water District; 2nd Vice President Scott A. Greco of the Bethpage Water District; Treasurer Michael J. Kosinski of the Roslyn Water District; and Secretary Rodney Caines of the Westbury Water District.
