Students in Jessica Gill and Gabriella Fielding’s class put weeks of effort into their nonfiction writing projects. To generate excitement, they could pick any topic of interest, with subjects ranging from animals to science to sports. Students did extensive research and made digital books at least four chapters long on Book Creator. They also included text features like a table of contents, glossary and photos with captions.
Presentation day featured a gallery walk in the classroom. Half of the class sat at their desks with their digital presentations and props or artifacts related to their topics. Other students then traversed the room to learn about the topics and leave each presenter a compliment, known as a “glow.” The two groups then switched.
