Floral Park-Bellerose Union Free School Districtannounced May 12 that Lauren Fretto is joining the “two schools, one district” community as the new assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, effective July 1.
Fretto has more than 15 years of experience in education and is currently the principal ofBabylon Memorial Grade School, which educates students in grades 3-6.
Among her responsibilities, she oversees all instructional programs, promotes a school culture that focuses on high academic expectations for all students, plans and facilitates monthly professional development sessions for new staff and participates in curriculum committee meetings that focus on K-12 vertical articulation amongst content areas and support New York State learning standards.
A former reading specialist, Fretto utilizes her strong literacy background to promote academic growth in reading and writing across the building.
“I look forward to joining the Floral Park-Bellerose School District,” Fretto said. “My passion, skillset and experience align with the district’s values, which emphasize academic growth and social-emotional learning for students. Through collaboration and communication, I am eager to partner with the school community to contribute meaningfully and help our students succeed.”
Fretto earned a bachelor’s in childhood education grades 1-6 from Molloy College, a master’s in literacy birth-grade 6 from Queens College and a certificate of advanced study in educational leadership from The College of Saint Rose.
“On behalf of our entire district, I’m excited to welcome Ms. Fretto to our school community,” Superintendent of Schools Anthony Lubrano said. “Each new educator brings fresh perspective, energy and possibility. I am certain her presence here will help shape the experiences and futures of our students.”
