Beijing:US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held high-stakes talks in Beijing on Thursday. Both leaders discussed a varied range of issues, with discussions centering on Iran, regional security, trade ties, and the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz. Following the meeting, Trump revealed that Xi had offered to help in efforts related to a possible Iran deal and assured that China would not provide military support to Tehran.
During the talks, China pushed the US for a deal with Iran to end all the hostilities. The US President told Fox News that his Chinese counterpart conveyed to him that he would like a deal between Washington and Beijing.
Discussion Between Trump And Jinping On Hormuz:
During an interview, the US President revealed that that Jinping offered to help keep the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz open and expressed willingness to assist in efforts related to a potential Iran deal.
"Xi would like to see a deal. He said that if he (Jinping) can be of ANY help at all, he would like to be of help," the US President told the media house.
Will China Keep Buying Oil From Iran?
During the discussion, Jinping made it clear to the US President that Beijing would keep buying oil from Tehran. "Yeah, he (Jinping ) did say that. And look, anybody that buys that much oil has obviously got some kind of a relationship with them," Trump added.
Chinese President On Military Support To Iran:
Trump claimed that Jinping told him that Beijing would not provide military equipment to Iran and expressed support for keeping the Strait of Hormuz open. "When you say ‘support,’ they’re not fighting a war with us or anything," Trump said when asked if the topic of China supporting Iran was raised during the bilateral meeting. He further claimed that the Chinese President assured him that Beijing would not provide military support to Tehran.
“He said he’s not gonna give military equipment. That’s a big statement,” Trump said.
