On the second anniversary of her son’s death, the mother of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny expressed vindication following a European assessment that concluded he died of poisoning, demanding justice for those responsible.

Speaking to reporters, including those from Agence France-Presse (AFP), near Navalny’s grave in Moscow on Monday, she stated, “This confirms what we knew from the very beginning. We knew that our son did not simply die in prison, he was murdered.”

Her comments came as she rejected official narratives surrounding the circumstances of Navalny’s death, emphasizing long-held family convictions about foul play.

“I think it will take some time, but we will find out who did it. Of course, we want this to happen in our country, and we want justice to prevail,” she added, underscoring a desire for accountability within Russia.

The European assessment aligns with the family’s assertions that Navalny’s demise on February 16, 2024, was not natural but resulted from poisoning, prompting renewed calls for investigation.

Navalny, a prominent critic of the Russian government, had been imprisoned at the time of his death, fueling widespread suspicions of murder among supporters and international observers.

Standing solemnly by her son’s gravesite in Moscow, the grieving mother’s words highlighted ongoing tensions over the opposition leader’s fate and the quest for truth two years later.
