In a tragic incident that has sparked outrage in Greater Noida, a three-year-old boy named Devansh died after falling into a deep, water-filled pit in Dalelgarh village under the Dankaur police station area on Saturday. The child was playing near a temple where a community feast was being organized when he slipped into the hazardous pit, which villagers say had remained open and dangerous for a long time, exacerbated by recent rains.
Devansh's father, Anil, a resident of Dalelgarh, had returned to his parents' home a few days earlier from his in-laws' place in Secunderabad, Bulandshahr, along with his son and daughter. The family attended the feast at the nearby temple, where the young boy ventured off to play in the vicinity, leading to the fatal accident.
Family members and villagers rushed to the scene upon hearing the child's cries, but by the time they managed to pull Devansh from the water-filled pit, he had already succumbed. The sudden loss has devastated the family and cast a pall of grief over the entire village.
Enraged villagers have accused local authorities of long-standing negligence, claiming they repeatedly complained about the open pit and similar hazards in the area. They highlighted that even after a recent incident near Sector 150, they had written to the Greater Noida Authority demanding that dangerous pits be filled and proper safety measures implemented, yet no action was taken.
"The pit in Dalelgarh remained uncovered despite our repeated pleas," villagers alleged, pointing to a pattern of ignored warnings that they believe contributed directly to the boy's death.
Police from the Dankaur station have been informed of the incident and stated that further action will be taken as per procedure. The case has reignited concerns over civic safety in residential and village areas of Greater Noida, underscoring the urgent need for preventive measures against such preventable hazards.
