One more India-bound tanker crossed the strategic sea trade route --Strait of Hormuz— on Wednesday while another one was also piped to cross the blockage naval route, officials said amid the ongoing war between the US and Iran. The LPG-tanker that has crossed the Strait of Hormuz is a Marshall Islands-flagged vessel named ‘Symi’. Meanwhile, according to TOI, another tanker — Vietnam-flagged NV Sunshine, was also on the verge of crossing the Strait of Hormuz. This is also anLPGcarrier and is expected to cross the tension region by Thursday (today).

The latter ship — NV Sunshine — will be heading towards the New Mangaluru Post and is loaded with around 46,000 tonnes of cooking gas. The vessel has 24 members on board.

These vessels are part of 41 tankers listed by the shipping ministry that are under the focus of priority evacuation from the conflict zone.

Apart from these, 13 Indian-flagged vessels are still in the conflict zone in the Persian Gulf as agencies work towards evacuating them.

While government agencies continuously monitor and track India vessels stranded in the Persian gulf, an Indian sailor was killed and several others injured after their wooden dhow caught fire near the Strait of Hormuz, government sources had informed last week.

Seventeen other Indian crew members were rescued following the incident, they said, noting that the exact cause of the blaze is still being ascertained.

The crew members were rescued by a vessel that was passing by in the area, the sources said.

The incident came amid increasing hostilities between Iran and the US in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime chokepoint between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman through which a significant portion of the world's oil supply passes.

If confirmed as a casualty of the ongoing conflict, this latest death brings the total number of Indian fatalities to nine since hostilities broke out on February 28.
