Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has publicly praised actress Priyanka Chopra for making India proud on the global stage, following their recent reunion at Harvard University’s India Conference. The two met backstage after more than a decade, just before Chopra took the stage as the closing keynote speaker at the largest India-focused conference in the US.
Tharoor shared photos of the encounter on social media, capturing the moment with Chopra and his aide, Narayan, who appeared "pleased as punch" to meet the star. In his post, Tharoor wrote: "Caught up with @priyankachopra (after more than a decade) in the wings at @Harvard backstage, just before her appearance as the closing keynote of the @HarvardIndConf."
Lauding her achievements, Tharoor added: "Remarkable to see (and hear) how well she is doing! She has made India proud by conquering a stage on which Indians rarely get to appear. And of course she looks stunning, appears perfectly poised and sounds thoughtful and wise — what’s not to be proud of?!" He highlighted her breathtaking beauty, aura, and wisdom, echoing sentiments shared by her fans.
Chopra, often referred to as Desi Girl or PeeCee, responded warmly to Tharoor's tweet. She wrote: "It was so good to see you again @ShashiTharoor Sir. Have always had such admiration for the orator that you are but as well for your clap backs,. thank you so much for staying for my panel and your wisdom. Hope you feel better soon and our paths cross again."
The meeting underscores Chopra's rising international prominence, where she has broken barriers in Hollywood and beyond, earning recognition in arenas typically dominated by non-Indians. Tharoor's compliments reflect a broader pride in her global conquests, from acting to producing and philanthropy.
Narayan, Tharoor's aide, joined the memorable backstage huddle, adding a lighthearted touch to the politicians' praise for the actress's poise and intellect during the high-profile event at Harvard.
