Virat Kohli might be a man with all sorts of batting records across formats of both international cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has scored several centuries, but he realized the value of a single run during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Shaheed Veer Singh Stadium in Raipur on Wednesday (May 13).

Kohli walked out to open the batting for the Bengaluru-based team after the visitors set them a big total of 193 to chase. The 37-year-old was under pressure, as he had made two ducks in a row coming into this game after failing to open his account against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians (MI).

The former RCB captain had to wait till the last ball of the first over to get strike but got off the mark on the first ball he faced from Saurabh Dubey's bowling. Kohli was evidently relieved at getting to avoid another duck. The Indian cricket superstar fervently celebrated the run in a moment that went viral on social media. The crowd was spotted chuckling at the celebration.

The celebration mirrored his reaction after getting off the mark in the third ODI between India and Australia at Sydney last year. Kohli had made ducks in the first two games of the series.

Before the duck against LSG, Kohli had not made a duck in the IPL for three years, while that was the first time he failed to get a run in a run chase in the league in over nine years. This marked the first instance of him making back-to-back ducks while chasing in his IPL career.

Through the course of his innings, Kohli completed 400 runs in the 2026 IPL season. He extended his record, as this marked the 12th season in which he had crossed the milestone. No other player has managed to achieve the incredible feat more than nine times. Today is also a historic occasion, as Kohli became themost capped playerin the league's history in his 279th appearance for RCB in the league.
