Kid Rock has forcefully rebutted accusations that he lip-synced during his high-energy performance of “Bawitdaba” at the Turning Point USA halftime show, attributing any perceived audio-visual discrepancies to production challenges in a video posted to X on Tuesday alongside his DJ, Freddie “Paradime” Beauregard.
Speculation arose from media outlets and online trolls who claimed the musician was not singing live, pointing to a mismatch between the audio and what appeared to be his mouth movements during the rendition of his hit song.
In the video, Kid Rock directly confronted the critics, stating, “What’s up people? We’re here to address the fake news media, and all the trolls that are piling on, trying to say I was lip-syncing on the Turning Point USA halftime ‘Bawitdaba.’” He emphasized that the performance was recorded live, but issues arose during post-production.
Kid Rock explained that he reviewed an initial edit from the production team and noted the synchronization problems himself. “They sent me a first cut, and my comment was, ‘The sync was off’ … It was very difficult for them because somebody wasn’t super familiar with the song,” he said.
He further elaborated on the technical hurdles, adding, “Now it’s extremely difficult for them to line up the sync. It could have been done if we had more time. I’m confident they could have got it right. I only got to see one edit. I didn’t think it was the end of the world.” The rocker dismissed the backlash as overblown, stemming from an inexperienced crew's struggles to properly align the cameras with the audio track.
To demonstrate his live vocal prowess, Kid Rock and DJ Freddie “Paradime” Beauregard capped the video with a quick, unedited performance of “Bawitdaba,” leaving no doubt about their authenticity.
