In the heart of Greenport village, the air buzzed with the sounds of sirens and celebrations on February 14 as the 181st Washington’s Birthday Parade, hosted by the Greenport Fire Department, marched through the streets. Grand Marshal Bill Von Eiff of Reflective Image in Greenport led the procession, setting a festive tone under relatively mild temperatures that drew participants and spectators alike.
Bill Von Eiff, proudly representing Reflective Image, a local Greenport business, spearheaded the parade route winding through the village. His leadership highlighted the community's longstanding tradition of honoring George Washington's birthday with a display of local pride and emergency service camaraderie.
Fire departments from across Long Island joined forces for the event, their trucks and apparatus adding to the symphony of sirens that filled the air. The participation underscored the regional spirit, bringing together responders from various towns in a unified march.
Marching bands affiliated with fire departments (FD) also stepped lively down the village streets, their music blending seamlessly with the parade's patriotic theme. The rhythmic beats and brass notes provided an energetic backdrop to the procession.
