Westbury Artspresented to the community a brief glimpse into the fascinating life and career of director, cameraman and global adventurer, Mr. W.L. Jackson.
“Jackson”, as he is more commonly known, has spent over 4 decades in film, fashion, sports and advertising. To start the evening, a short video was shown that pieced together clips from many of his film shoots from around the world. Action-packed video clips on the sea, in the air and on mountainsides in the style of glitzy ad campaigns.
After the film, Jackson was interviewed by Westbury alum Doug LeClaire of Asbury Shorts fame. We learned of Jackson’s initial career choice – accounting – and the happenstance opportunity that presented itself, which set him on his path for the next 40-plus years. That opportunity turned out to be the filming of Cyndi Lauper’s breakthrough video of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”, and that impromptu job assisting a friend led to other opportunities that eventually led to much grander projects. He worked on video shoots for other musicians, then full-length films, then fashion shoots, then sports events, and so on.
After listening to tales of a lifetime of adventures, Jackson displayed his vast collection of set passes accumulated throughout his career. Then the event ended with another video, this one a montage of various images from W. L. Jackson’s shoot locations around the world.
It was an inspirational overview of an exceptional and storied career.
