Six people are vying for three open seats on the Hicksville School Distrct’s Board of Education, which the community will vote for on Tuesday, May 19.

Trustee Irene Carlomusto is not seeking re-election, and Kim Raspanti and Carolina Sanchez-Molina are both running for her seat.

Trustee Sunita Manjrekar is running for re-election while Mary Dwyer-Johnson is challenging her for the position. Trustee Danielle Fotopoulos is also seeking re-election and is being challenged by Ryan Chaplin.

Raspanti grew up in Hicksville and now has a child in the district. She said being in the community for as long as she has is important for a Board of Education member.

“I’m looking to advocate for the students, staff and community, offer accountability and fresh perspectives, and be fiscally responsible,” she said.

If elected, Raspanti said she wants to be a voice for Hicksville residents and help the district plan for the future.

“I’ve watched our students grow, our families support one another, and our schools shape futures. I’m not just invested, I’m part of this community and I’m ready to serve it,” she said.

Raspanti has worked for an auto insurance company for over 25 years and serves in a supervisory position.

Sanchez-Molina is a longtime PTA member in Hicksville and is now looking to join the Board of Education. She grew up in Queens and attended private school, leading her to say she did not understand the importance of the local school community until she moved to Hicksville.

Sanchez-Molina said her objective is to help the students in the community, and that if she is elected, she wants to help the district be fiscally responsible and plan strategically for the future.
