A number of leading American business executives, including Elon Musk and Tim Cook, are mexpected to travel to China with US President Donald Trump later this week for a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to a White House official. The delegation will also include senior figures from Wall Street, technology and manufacturing sectors, as the two countries seek to stabilise economic relations following years of trade tensions.

Among those travelling are Larry Fink, Kelly Ortberg and Dina Powell McCormick.

The visitcomes as Trump attempts to address what he has described as an imbalance in trade between the United States and China, while encouraging Beijing to increase purchases of American products including aircraft, soybeans and energy exports.

The trip also signals a further thaw in relations between Trump and Musk after a highly public dispute in 2025. The two men publicly clashed after Musk criticised the president and called for his impeachment, while Trump suggested the billionaire could face deportation despite previously appointing him to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Relations between the pair have since improved, with Musk attending several White House events connected to SpaceX.

However, tensions had reportedly persisted over the nomination of Musk ally Jared Isaacman to lead NASA. Trump initially withdrew Isaacman's nomination before later renominating him as ties with Musk improved.

Musk's political involvement has also coincided with weaker earnings at Tesla, amid criticism over his role in government.

Notably absent from the list of executives travelling to China is Jensen Huang, whose company manufactures the advanced chips driving the global artificial intelligence industry.

Chuck Robbins had also been invited but will not attend due to a scheduled quarterly earnings call, according to a company spokesperson.

It remains unclear which executives will travel aboard Air Force One with the president and which will make separate arrangements.
