Incumbent Trustees Ginger Lieberman and Debbie Bernstein are running unopposed for re-election in the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District.
Community members will be able to vote on school board positions and annual budgets on Tuesday, May 19.
Ginger Lieberman has served on the board for 41 years as a trustee, the vice president and president since taking a seat on the board in 1984.
She is the co-creator of the children’s book “The Bully Frog,” which won the National Legacy Book Award. She has also taught at LIU Post (formally known as C.W. Post), and works with the Board of Cooperative Educational Services of Nassau County.
“I love being around the kids. I feel that that’s a role. It doesn’t matter if you’re president, vice president, or trustee; they’re all equal,” Lieberman said.
Lieberman has lived in the district for 50 years, where her two children and grandchildren have been enrolled.
During her time serving the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District, she says she has prioritized communication and transparency above all else.
“Transparency with parents is very important,” Lieberman said. “- and I feel that when I see a staff member, an administrator, custodian – it doesn’t matter. It’s saying hello to them, talking to them and just knowing that if you want to talk to me, I’m here.”
Lieberman said that in her time on the board, she has prioritized anti-bullying, special education and providing students with several avenues of post-graduate support. She said that she hopes to continue to help provide quality education for every single student.
“I think it’s just very, very important that we ensure quality education for everybody,” Lieberman said.
