A glove discovered roughly two miles from the Tucson, Arizona, home of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today's Show host Savannah Guthrie, appears to match those worn by a masked individual captured on surveillance video outside her front door the night she vanished, the FBI announced Sunday.
The glove, located in a field near the side of the road, contains DNA and has been sent for testing. In a statement released Sunday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation revealed it received preliminary results on Saturday and is awaiting official confirmation.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her Arizona home on January 31 and reported missing the following day in what authorities described as an apparent abduction. Investigators later confirmed her blood was found on the front porch of the residence.
Purported ransom notes were sent to news outlets following her disappearance, but two specified deadlines for payment have since passed without further developments reported.
The glove's significance emerged days after authorities publicly released surveillance footage from Guthrie's porch camera. The video depicts a person wearing a ski mask, long trousers, jacket, gloves, and carrying a backpack approaching the front door on the night of January 31.
FBI officials emphasized the preliminary nature of the DNA results, underscoring that confirmatory testing remains ongoing as the search for Nancy Guthrie continues amid this critical lead in the high-profile case.
