Claims by prominent biographer Michael Wolff have ignited fierce controversy over First Lady Melania Trump's alleged ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during her modeling days in the 1990s. Wolff, known for his extensive writings on President Donald Trump, asserts that Melania Knauss, as she was then known, was active in Epstein's social circle before meeting her future husband, prompting swift and aggressive legal pushback from the Trump administration.
The dispute centers on the circumstances of Melania Trump's introduction to Donald Trump amid the modeling industry's connections to Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, who held significant influence at the time. Wolff first made these allegations public during a July 2025 interview on The Daily Beast podcast, where he described Melania as part of Epstein's social orbit.
According to Wolff, Melania was introduced to Donald Trump by Paolo Zampolli, the founder of ID Models, who had ties to both Epstein and Maxwell. Zampolli played a key role in facilitating Melania's emigration to the United States and now serves as Trump's special representative for global partnerships. "She's introduced by a model agent, both of whom Trump and Epstein are involved with. She's introduced to Trump that way. Epstein [knew] her well," Wolff stated on the podcast.
Wolff further claimed to possess unverified recordings in which Epstein discussed Donald Trump's relationship with Melania. The biographer's assertions have not been substantiated independently, fueling the ongoing debate.
Melania Trump's legal team responded forcefully to Wolff's account, leading several major publications to retract their coverage. The First Lady has firmly denied any connection between Epstein and her relationship with Donald Trump.
In her 2024 bestselling memoir Melania, she detailed meeting her husband at New York City's Kit Kat Club in 1998, with no reference to Epstein, directly contradicting Wolff's narrative.
