Under sunny skies and the watchful eye of the Roslyn Bulldog mascot, Roslyn High School officials stepped up to the plate Thursday, May 7, to celebrate a long-awaited home run for student-athletes and the community alike: the opening of the district’s new state-of-the-art sports complex.
The Roslyn School District officially unveiled the new athletic facilities during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the school’s new turf baseball field, drawing students, staff, administrators, Board of Education trustees and community members together for the milestone event.
“This is truly our field of dreams,” Board of Education President Meryl Waxman Ben-Levy told attendees. “World-class kids deserve world-class facilities, and now you finally have them.”
The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance and a performance of the national anthem by Roslyn High School junior Adriana Pincic. Director of Athletics Michael Brostowski welcomed the crowd before Waxman Ben-Levy joined district leaders to cut the ceremonial ribbon and toss a baseball to teacher and Varsity Baseball Coach Daniel Freeman.
Brostowski called the project “a testament to what can be accomplished when a community comes together with purpose and pride.”
The newly completed complex includes sweeping upgrades to the district’s athletic and recreational spaces. At the center is a multipurpose turf field designed for baseball, soccer and marching band activities, complete with stadium lighting, a public address system and a dual-use scoreboard for baseball and soccer.
Additional baseball enhancements include covered dugouts, grandstands, batting cages, outfield wall padding and highline safety netting.
The district also added seven new tennis courts featuring a covered pavilion, bleacher seating, lighting on select courts, wind screens and a covered turf viewing area for spectators and special events.
Other improvements include new shot put and discus areas, ADA-accessible ramps and walkways, landscaped entrances, expanded parking and a donor paver plaza connecting the various facilities.
Superintendent Allison Brown said the project reflects the district’s broader mission of supporting students both on and off the field.
