First-grade students at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School marked a meaningful milestone on Tuesday, May 5, gathering to present a check to the Theodore Roosevelt Association in support of its “Teddy Bears for Kids” program.
The donation was made possible by first-grade families who contributed during the annual Social Studies Night in March.
Running since 1986, Teddy Bears for Kids has delivered more than 90,000 teddy bears to children in hospitals across the country. Oyster Bay-East Norwich Elementary Curriculum Associate Jennifer Capogna and Theodore Roosevelt Association Executive Director Chris Cosentino spoke to students about the difference their generosity would make for children in need of comfort. Teddy Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear on a hunting trip in 1902, earning the good will of children and adults.
After presenting the check to Cosentino, students gathered for a group photo to mark the occasion. The district extends its gratitude to all first graders and their families for their support of this meaningful cause.
