Water levels in the Euphrates River within the "cradle of civilization" are plummeting sharply, raising alarm about a Biblical end-times prophecy.

The deteriorating Euphrates River, Western Asia's longest waterway stretching acrossTurkey,Syria, andIraq, runs through a historically significant Biblical area, the Fertile Crescent.

The river features in theBook of Revelation, a prophecy that has generated online anxiety as it predicts the end times and Jesus Christ's Second Coming.

Revelation 16:12 says, "The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East."

Many have interpreted this to suggest that once the Euphrates River runs dry, a massive Eastern army will be able to traverse the river basin for the Battle of Armageddon.

This verse marks the second Biblical prediction concerning the Euphrates River's depletion, with the initial reference appearing in Jeremiah 50:38, when God said, "A drought on her waters! They will dry up. For it is a land of idols, idols that will go mad with terror."

The second prophecy in Revelation forms part of the seven bowl judgments, which represent the conclusion of the seven-year tribulation and are so catastrophic that "no human being would be saved."

End-times believers are causing a stir over the drying up of the Euphrates River, suggesting that the prophecy may be unfolding before our very eyes, as the river continues its active decline.
