Chennai:A political controversy in Tamil Nadu after the swearing-in ceremony ofChief Minister Joseph Vijay.Some raised objections over the order in which the national song 'Vande Mataram', the national anthem, and the Tamil anthem, 'Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu', was played. Following the controversy, TVK leaders later stated that Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu would henceforth be given precedence at future state functions.
At official events, including swearing-in ceremonies of CMs, the rules around the National Anthem and “Vande Mataram” were issued by the Union Home Ministry protocols in February this year.

- When National Salute (which means the command "Rashtriya Salute Salami Shastr" to the accompaniment of the National Anthem is given on ceremonial occasions to the President or to the Governor/Lieutenant Governor within their respective States/union territories
-During parades– irrespective of whether any of the dignitaries referred to in.
-On arrival of the Presidentat formal state functions and other functions organized by the government and mass functions and on his departure from such functions.
-Immediately before and after thePresident addressesthe Nation over All India Radio
-Onarrival of the Governor/Lieutenant Governorat formal state functions within his state/union territory and on his departure from such functions
-When theNational Flag is brought on parade.
