Chennai:Tamil Nadu Chief MinisterC Joseph Vijayon Monday (May 11) met his predecessor and DMK President MK Stalin at the latter's Alwarpet residence in Chennai. It is for the first time that Vijay met Stalin after winning polls and after assuming office as the chief minister. The visit was being described as a "courtesy call." Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi Stalin accorded a warm welcome to CM Vijay.
Udhayanidhi initially welcomed Vijay with a handshake and a warm embrace upon the CM's arrival. Later, Stalin also hugged Vijay. Vijay and Stalin honoured each other with silk shawls and bouquet.
The meeting comes after an acrimonious electoral battle between DMK and Vijay's TVK ahead of the April 23 polls, which the latter won.
"Thalapathy" Vijay on Sunday took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at Chennai’s Nehru Stadium, marking a historic moment in the state’s political landscape. The actor-turned-politician assumed office after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), pulled up a surprise by winning 108 seats in the assembly polls.
Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar also administered the oath of office to nine ministers, including N Anand, Aadhav Arjuna, Rajmohan and Selvi S Keerthana.

Vijay's TVK formed the government with the support of the Congress, the VCK ad Left parties. All these parties were allies of the DMK.
In the assembly polls, the Stalin-led DMK managed to win only 59 seats, while the main opposition party, AIADMK, bagged 47 seats. The Congress won five seats. The VCK, the CPI ad the CPI(M) secured two seats each. Meanwhile, the BJP managed to secure only one seat. The TVK managed to breached the duopoly of the DMK-AIADMK. Notably, it is for the first time in over five decades that non-Dravidian party formed the government in the state.
