A male passenger was arrested at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport after a young woman accused him of molesting her repeatedly during a private airline flight from Hanoi, Vietnam, police confirmed. The incident unfolded on a flight bound for Kolkata, where the woman, seated in 26A, alleged that her co-passenger in seat 26B harassed her with inappropriate touches and comments, particularly as the aircraft prepared to land.
The accused has been identified as Abdur Rahim, a resident of Bhagalpur in Bihar. According to the woman's complaint, Rahim began touching her inappropriately during the flight. She initially believed the contact was accidental but grew suspicious after it occurred three to four times, leading her to conclude it was intentional. She also claimed that Rahim made inappropriate comments throughout the journey.
Distressed by the repeated harassment, the young woman raised an alarm inside the aircraft. The cabin crew responded promptly, intervening to separate the passengers by shifting Rahim to another seat, ensuring her safety for the remainder of the flight.
Upon landing at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport, the airline staff immediately notified security authorities. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel detained Rahim at the airport and subsequently handed him over to the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport police station for further action.
Police stated that the woman boarded the flight from Hanoi and was seated next to Rahim, who allegedly escalated his behavior as the plane neared Kolkata. The swift intervention by the cabin crew and security forces prevented further incidents, and the matter is now under police investigation based on the woman's formal complaint.
