The two countries havebeen in conflictsince February 28 when theUS and Israel carried out joint strikeson several key Iranian sites. Iran responded by striking sites across the Middle East and closing the critical Strait of Hormuz trade route.
Pakistan has been mediating talks between the two countries. Although a fragile short-term ceasefire holds, no long-term peace agreement has been reached.

He said: "I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called “Representatives.” I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DONALD J. TRUMP"
The latest US proposal had addressed a deal to end the war, reopen the Strait of Hormuz and scale back on Tehran's nuclear program.
It is understood that Iran's response to the latest peace proposal refuses to address its nuclear program, focusing instead on ending the fighting across the Middle East.
According to the IRNA news agency, the Iranian counter-offer seeks to ensure the security of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz before starting talks on more contentious issues such as Iran’s nuclear program.
