A British couple from East Sussex, Lindsay and Craig Foreman, have endured more than 400 days of harrowing conditions in Tehran's notorious Evin prison, where they face starvation, chronic medical neglect, and psychological torment, according to warnings from their son to Members of Parliament.
The Foremans were detained in January 2025 while on a world motorcycle tour and subsequently charged with espionage, a claim they vehemently deny. Evin facility is infamous for its overcrowding and harsh treatment of detainees, amplifying the couple's ordeal.
Their son has alerted MPs to the dire situation, highlighting the ongoing starvation and medical neglect his parents are suffering, alongside severe psychological torment. Lindsay Foreman herself described the experience to ITV News directly from the prison, labeling it as “psychological torture.”
In her interview, Ms. Foreman expressed profound regret over their naive assumptions about safety. “I naively and ignorantly believed we would be safe,” she said, noting their meticulous preparations which included obtaining visas, hiring an Iranian travel agent, and employing a tour guide.
She further reflected on the unexpected risks they underestimated: “We kind of felt… there’s a risk of detainment, but how bad can that be? If we’re innocent people, why would they detain us?” These words underscore the couple's shock at their prolonged detention despite their innocence claims.
The family's plight has drawn attention through related reports, including pleas issued as the couple was reportedly "whisked away" to court, and concerns over a potential hunger strike in a desperate bid for action. The Foremans remain imprisoned at Evin, with their son urging parliamentary intervention to address the appalling conditions.
