Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are currently taking on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 53 of the IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on May 10 (Sunday). CSK needed 204 runs to win, after LSG put on 203 run in the first innings of the match. While everyone expected the likes of Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad to fire, it was Urvil Patel who managed to steal the show in the first part of the second innings. In fact, he managed to create history and equal a huge IPL record.
Urvil Patel, coming in at number three, went all guns blazing right from the first ball. He went past his first IPL century in no time, reaching the milestone in just 13 deliveries. He thus became the joint-fastest batter in history to reach a fifty in the IPL. He equalled the record set by Yashasvi Jaiswal in an IPL 2025 match for the Rajasthan Royals against the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Urvil Patel ultimately got out after scoring 65 runs from 20 deliveries.
Here are the fastest fifties in the history of the IPL:
13 - Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR) vs KKR, Kolkata, 2023
13 - Urvil Patel (CSK) vs LSG, Lucknow, 2026
14 - KL Rahul (PBKS) vs DC, Mohali, 2018
14 - Pat Cummins (KKR) vs MI, Pune, 2022
14 - Romario Shepherd (RCB) vs CSK, Bengaluru, 2025
Urvil Patel has also managed to break another record. He smashed 42 runs in the first 10 balls of his innings. This is now the most number of runs in the first 10 balls of an innings by any player in the history of the IPL. He broke the record jointly held by Ab De Villiers and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
