The Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) warning to Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises seems to have fallen on deaf ears as another worrying sight emerged during Sunday's (May 10) fixture between the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
During the early minutes of the match when Josh Inglis was batting, the cameras pointed towards the LSG camp, and a visual showed a staff member of the franchise allegedly on a phone call. Cricket fans were quick to take notice, and the incident became the talk of the town.
However, it is still not verified if the visuals are from the LSG dugout or from the VIP area of the venue or the dressing room. The person in question and his role in the franchise are also yet to be identified.
As per the Player and Match Official Arena (POMA) rules of the IPL, only team managers are allowed to use mobile phones. However, they are only allowed to do so in the dressing room and not in the dugout.
"Mobile Phones and other electronic communications equipment are not allowed to be used in the PMOA other
than for a few members of the team.
• The Team Manager may use a phone in the Dressing Room area but NOT in the Dugout.
• The Analyst may use his computer at the analyst table.
• Player and support staff items i.e. phones, smart watches or any other communication devices should be
turned off and given to the team SLO for storage on arrival at the stadium.
