A 22-year-old woman was found dead with burn injuries in Greater Noida’s Dadri area barely three months after her marriage, triggering allegations of murder over a property dispute worth crores. Police have arrested a neighbour in connection with the case, while the victim’s family accused her husband and in-laws of assaulting and killing her before allegedly attempting to dispose of the body.
The deceased, Monika Nagar, as per a report by TOI, entered into a court marriage with Anuj Chauhan on February 17 after the two had been in a relationship.
Police registered a case against Monika’s husband, Anuj, neighbour Kannu and several others. The postmortem report did not reveal the exact cause of death, following which the viscera was preserved for further examination.
According to police, Monika had been living with her mother in a rented house before marrying Anuj. They added that both families were aware of and had agreed to the marriage.
Police also said Monika had informed her brother that her husband and in-laws were assaulting her. Following this, her family rushed to the house and alleged that she had been killed.
“We saw that Anuj, his family members, and Kannu, a neighbour, were putting Monika’s body into a black Fortuner. We chased them and, after some time, tried to stop them near Galaxy Hospital in Dadri, but they did not stop. Instead, they allegedly tried to run over me and my nephew with the vehicle before escaping,” she told TOI.
“Around 9 pm, I received a phone call from the police informing me that Monika’s body had been found with burn injuries,” she told TOI.
“Khoon ka badla khoon. I request the Uttar Pradesh chief minister to kill the murderers in an encounter. Only then will I get justice,” she said.
