Tamil Nadu's post-poll political drama took another twist on Sunday after the DMK claimed that party chief and outgoing Chief Minister MK Stalin played a key role in ensuring thatVijaycould form the government with the support of allies, preventing what it described as a potential “constitutional crisis” in the state. Speaking to ANI, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai congratulated Vijay on becoming Chief Minister and said the development was made possible because of the efforts of the DMK leadership and its alliance partners. He said Stalin had consistently maintained that Tamil Nadu should avoid political instability and had held extensive consultations with allies after the fractured mandate.

“He is able to become the Chief Minister with the help of the allies of the DMK, and our leader, MK Stalin, had earlier pointed out that he does not want a constitutional crisis,” Annadurai said.

The DMK leader also took a swipe at the Congress, accusing it of “backstabbing” the DMK despite winning seats due to the ruling party’s organisational strength. He claimed the Congress’ electoral success came only because of the groundwork laid by DMK cadres, polling agents, counting agents and booth-level workers across the state.

"The people of Tamil Nadu have given a mandate. Thanks to our Chief Minister, he has persuaded the allies. We had extensive consultations with the DMK party leaders. Our leader, MK Stalin, has also mentioned the way the Congress has backstabbed the DMK. They won these five seats only because of the hard work of the DMK caders on the ground, the polling agent, the counting agent, and the booth level agent," he added.

TVK chief C Joseph Vijay will take the oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday at 10 AM at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will administer the oath of office to him. Several senior national and regional political leaders, film personalities and party workers are expected to attend the ceremony.

The development comes after the TVK, which emerged as the single largest party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, secured the support of multiple parties to cross the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly.

Though TVK fell short of a simple majority on its own, the Indian National Congress soon after the election results extended support to Vijay.

The Communist parties, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, and Indian Union Muslim League also announced unconditional support to the Vijay-led formation.

With backing from alliance partners and supporting parties, the TVK-led bloc has secured the support of 120 Members of the Legislative Assembly, comfortably crossing the 118-member majority mark required to form the government in Tamil Nadu.
