Vijay is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), secured enough support tocross the majority markin the state assembly. The development ends days of uncertainty over government formation and marks the first time in nearly 70 years that the state will have a government led by neither the DMK nor the AIADMK.

According to a statement from Lok Bhavan, Vijay will take oath as chief minister at 10 am on Sunday, May 10.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.

The event is expected to be broadcast widely because of its political significance. Viewers can watch the event live on Times Now.

More than 5,000 guests have reportedly been invited to the event. Among the senior political leaders expected to attend is Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

TVK won 108 seats in the 234-member assembly in its first state election, leaving it 10 short of the 118 seats needed for a majority. After several days of negotiations, support from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) helped Vijay cross the majority threshold. Both parties later said they would provide outside support and would not join the government.

Vijay met Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Lok Bhavan on Saturday and submitted letters of support from the Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK and IUML.

A statement from Lok Bhavan said the governor had accepted Vijay's claim to form the government and invited him to constitute the ministry in accordance with constitutional procedure. Vijay has also been asked to prove his majority on the floor of the assembly on or before May 13.

The VCK, led by Thol. Thirumavalavan, had kept political circles guessing over its position before eventually extending support on Saturday. Shortly afterwards, the IUML also announced its backing.

With support from Congress, the Left parties, VCK and IUML, the coalition backing TVK rose to 120 legislators, just above the majority mark.
