RUSH EXCERPT:BAKER: "Yeah, he certainly frustrated. This war hasn’t been wrapped up. He expected it to be a much faster operation, even in his own mind. I think he had it could the idea it could be over even in days. Just he had his idea that it would be like the Venezuela snatch and grab when they went in and captured president Maduro and put him on, put him in federal prison, obviously, it was never going to be that easy. And it’s I think, you know, he got to the point where this isn’t helping but hurting him politically. And you even saw an article by our friend Jonathan Lemire in the Atlantic quoting a former senior official. I think it is an adviser to President Trump, saying he’s grown bored of the war and that, you know, he wants to find a way out. But it has to be one that looks like a victory. To Ambassador McFaul’s point, it can’t look like the Obama deal. Otherwise, people will say, what on earth do we do this for? And some of the things that were talked about in that one page term sheet they submitted to the Iranians sound not that different in concept than what the Obama jcpoa deal was. He may get a better deal in the sense of having a few more years of moratorium on enrichment of uranium. For instance, he apparently proposed 20 year moratorium, according to what was reported. That’s more than the Obama deal had. But it is of a piece. It is the same concept. It’s a concept of buying time. And of course, the Iranians haven’t agreed to even the 20 year moratorium. So it’s really, as I think the ambassador made the point. It’s a real conundrum for them. How do they fashion an end of the war that looks like victory and allows them to move on with, you know, the elections proceeding pretty quickly?"
