TVK chief Vijay is all set to take oath as the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on May 10 (tomorrow). The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 10 AM. The actor-turned-politician finally got Governor Rajendra Arlekar nod to stake claim and form the next government, after security support from regional parties.

In a fast-paced developments and several twists and turns that were nothing short of a blockbuster movie script, Vijay on Saturday was finally able to secure the magic number of -- 118 -- required for government formation. Vijay's TVK, which has emerged as the single largest party in Tamil Nadu with 108 seats, fell short of an absolute majority. However, after five days of hectic meetings with regional parties, Vijay has been able to secure the support of CPI, CPIM, VCK, and IUML, taking the total tally to 120, two more required for government formation.

Earlier today, after VCK confirmed its support to TVK, Vijay wasted no time to seek an appointment with Governor Arlekar and everybody hoped that all hurdles were cleared.

Initially, reports surfaced that the Governor had denied an appointment to Vijay as he was scheduled to visit Kerala. But within minutes, the situation turnaround once again in the favour of Vijay, reports surfaced that the Governor had cancelled his Kerala trip and agreed on meeting Vijay.

Soon after that, Vijay left for Raj Bhavan, along with representatives from Congress, CPI, CPIM, VCK and other regional parties. He met and facilitated the governor and finally staked claim (for the fourth time) to form the government. The meeting went for almost an hour, keeping lakhs of his fans waiting for the big decision.

Finally, news came in from Raj Bhavan that Vijay had secured Governor's nod to form the government and will face the floor test on May 13.

The development marks a generational change in Tamil Nadu's political history, that for decades, has been dominated by Dravidian politics.

TVK has 108 MLA, Congress has 5, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML all have two each, taking the total tally to 121.

Among these allies, Congress declared its support to TVK days back, CPI and CPI(M) backed him on Friday while VCK and IUML ended their suspense on supporting Vijay on Saturday.

According to reports, all these parties have extended an unconditional support to TVK Vijay, amid talks going around in media circles that some of the allies may secure cabinet berths.
