A Hicksville man associated with the MS-13 gang was convicted of predatory sexual assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and other charges for assaulting, threatening, and harassing a 32-year-old woman in 2023, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced on Friday, May 8.

Jayden Abadi Alvarado Velasquez was convicted on Wednesday, May 6, after a jury trial of predatory sexual assault, five counts of criminal possession of a weapon, attempted assault, assault and aggravated harassment, according to the DA. Velasquez is due back for sentencing on June 11 and faces a potential maximum of 25 years to life in prison.

On Aug. 26, 2023, Velasquez met the victim at a neighborhood deli, and the following day, he showed up at the victim’s apartment and threatened her at gunpoint, commencing a months-long pattern of abuse, Donnelly said.

Over the next several weeks, Velasquez abused, threatened, and harassed the victim, culminating in a final sexual assault at gunpoint, the DA said.

On Nov. 26, 2023, Velasquez smashed the victim’s cell phone and physically assaulted her during an altercation in her car, Donnelly said.

Velasquez then drove the victim to a psychiatric center in Brentwood, where the incident escalated, and he threatened to cut off the victim’s hand and claimed to have murdered and buried a former girlfriend on the grounds before he threatened to kill and bury the victim in the same location, Donnelly said.

Velasquez later drove the victim back to his house in Hicksville, where he sexually assaulted her, the DA said.

On Nov. 29, 2023, Velasquez sent intimidating text messages to the victim, which included a video of two firearms he had previously used to threaten her life, Donnelly said.

A search of Velasquez’s bedroom by members of the Nassau County Police Department found a handgun, a magazine, multiple rounds of ammunition, and multiple state ID cards with Velasquez’s photo and different names, Donnelly said.

Detectives also recovered a loaded handgun, magazine, and ammunition from Velasquez’s jacket that he had been wearing at the time, the DA said.
