The Westbury, Carle Place, and Herricks communities will each vote on their respective school district budgets and board of education on Tuesday, May 19.
The $209,822,273 Westbury School District budget marks an $8,480,805, or 4.21%, increase from the current budget. The 2026-2027 budget will have a 2.30% tax levy increase, which is within the allowable tax cap.
According to a calculation by Schneps Media Long Island, based on the 2026-2027 proposed budget divided by the total students, the district plans to spend $49,463.05 per pupil during the next academic year. This calculation does not reflect how the state calculates its aid package for the school system.
Two incumbents, Trustees Robin Bolling and Rodney Caines, are running unopposed for re-election for the district’s board of education.
Westbury residents will head to the polls on Tuesday, May 19, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at either Westbury Middle School, Drexel Avenue School, Park Avenue School, or Dryden Street School.
The $60,127,845 Carle Place School District’s 2026-2027 budget marks a $1,438,611, or 2.45%, increase from the current $58.7 mllion budget. The budget carries a 2.32% tax levy increase and falls within the allowable tax cap. The tax levy accounts for $48,894,575 of the budget’s revenue.
According to a calculation by Schneps Media Long Island, based on the 2026-2027 proposed budget divided by the total students, the district plans to spend $44,905.04 per pupil during the next academic year. This calculation does not reflect how the state calculates its aid package for the school system.
The ballot will also have a proposition where the Carle Place community will vote on whether the district can establish a $15 million capital reserve fund with a 15-year term. The district said any future expenditures from the capital reserve fund would require authorization by residents and it would have no impact on the budget or tax levy.
The third proposition on the ballot would elect three people to the district’s board of education. Six candidates are vying for three at-large positions.Board president Vanessa Dong-Monaco and board vice president Kathleen Reardon are seeking reelection, while Viki Santos Brenner, Kimberly Ribarich, Guarav Singh and Christine Aguilar are looking to join the board. The top two vote-getters will assume three-year terms, while the third-highest vote-getter will serve the remaining two years of Lawrence Zaino’s term, who previously announced his retirement.
Voting will take place on Tuesday, May 19, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Carle Place High School multipurpose room.
