Patna:The Bihar government has ordered vehicle owners across the state to remove caste-related words, slogans and stickers from their vehicles within one month. The Transport Department has warned that those who fail to comply could face fines of up to Rs 2,000 under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Officials said vehicle owners have been given time till the first week of June to voluntarily remove such stickers. After that, traffic police will begin a state-wide enforcement drive with strict vehicle checks.
Violators may face penalties of Rs 500 under Section 177 and up to Rs 2,000 under Section 179 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The Transport Department has directed District Transport Officers (DTOs) across Bihar to ensure the order is implemented in their respective areas.
Displaying caste-related stickers or slogans on vehicles is common in many parts of India, and Bihar’s move is being seen as an attempt to discourage such displays on public roads.

At the same time, Bihar is also rolling out a major technology upgrade for traffic enforcement.
The state government has approved an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS), under which AI-powered cameras will be installed at 500 to 700 major intersections and accident-prone roads.
The cameras will be deployed in cities including Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga.
