Israeli warplanes launched a series of 14 air strikes on several areas in southern Lebanon late Sunday night, targeting mountainous regions and areas near residential zones, according to a Lebanese military field source speaking to Sputnik.
The strikes were executed in multiple waves using heavy guided missiles, the source detailed. "Last night, Israeli warplanes launched a series of powerful strikes with heavy guided missiles on … [several areas] in southern Lebanon," the source said. The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported additional strikes beyond the 14 recorded by the military source.
The Israeli army issued a statement on its Arabic-language digital platforms confirming the attacks, specifying that they targeted military infrastructure facilities belonging to the Hezbollah movement in southern Lebanon.
These strikes come amid ongoing tensions despite a ceasefire agreement reached between Israel and Lebanon on November 27, 2024. Under the terms of that agreement, the Lebanese army has been actively deploying in expanded operations in the south.
In late August 2025, the Lebanese government ordered the army to monopolize arms possession by the end of 2025. As part of this directive, Lebanese forces have been eliminating Hezbollah weapons depots and tunnels in the region.
Nevertheless, Israel has continued to conduct strikes on Lebanese territory and has threatened major action should Lebanon fail to fully comply with its commitments under the ceasefire.
