During the T20 World Cup 2026 earlier this year, Samson was the top scorer for India, scoring 321 runs and leading India to the title. He has also shown tremendous form for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026 and sits at the helm in the list of most runs for his team this season, with 402 runs in 10 games, including two centuries.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the selectors will consider IPL performances when they sit to pick the squad for the Ireland and England tour, andSuryakumarYadav might struggle to find a place given his recent form, where he has failed to make any significant contribution for the Mumbai Indians. He has been out of form for the national side too, and had a mediocre T20 World Cup with the bat. If selectors don't want to rush making Samson captain and wait a bit longer for Suryakumar Yadav, Samson could be named the vice captain of the team for the Ireland and England tour.
